At Churchill Orthopedic Rehabilitation, we apply the latest tools and techniques in the industry with all of our physical therapy services to ensure that you return to full motion as quickly as possible following illness or injury. Our dedicated team of specialists will work one-on-one with you in the comfort of our warm and modern facility as part of our high-quality continuum of care.

Our Physical Therapy Services Include:

Post Operative Rehabilitation
Let’s work together to help you heal from surgery and to live pain-free while achieving full range of motion and enhanced strength. Many of our patients have had either knee, hip, or shoulder surgery and work with us to return to normal living.

We will design a Personalized Recovery Therapy Plan tailored to you, taking into account your specific surgery, age, size, and lifestyle needs while aiming to be as stress-free as possible. Depending on your situation, your therapy might occur in your own home or on-site at our facility. We incorporate a wide variety of treatments including manual therapy techniques, cold laser therapy to reduce swelling, and strengthening therapies as you progress. We look forward to designing your Recovery Therapy Plan and being part of your team as you heal from surgery.

The COR Running Program is a personalized biomechanical analysis by a physical therapist using our unique analysis process. This allows us to measure a runner’s:

  • cadence
  • step and stride length
  • right- and left-sided asymmetries
  • other running gait parameter

Churchill Orthopedic Rehabilitation uses the results from the analysis along with a functional movement assessment to identify possible impairments and asymmetries contributing to running gait inefficiency and/or pain. As one of the few providers in Bergen County that offers this service, the COR Running Program allows Churchill Orthopedic Rehabilitation to create an individualized program for each runner that improves their running efficiency and eliminates their pain.

non-operative rehabilitation

Work with us to return to your pain-free life and feel normal again. We understand how an injury can make life difficult due to discomfort, loss of mobility, and weakness. Whether it is a shoulder, back, or other part of the body, we can help you reduce your pain and regain strength and mobility.

After we meet with you, we will design a Personalized Physical Therapy Plan to get you back on the right path. Therapy will include manual therapy techniques and strengthening exercises. We may also utilize our cold laser therapy treatment to decrease swelling, use new chronic pain management options, and perhaps massage therapy. Each patient has unique needs and we will design a plan customized for you.

spinal care

Research tells us that pain occurs in your brain. As signals are sent to the brain, they are interpreted by the brain as being dangerous and noxious or not dangerous. If the brain feels you are in danger then you will feel pain where there is a problem in your body. When the problem clears up, sometimes the brain keeps interpreting that signal as dangerous through a process called central sensitization.

Chronic pain management using the BioPsychoSocial framework will allow you to “turn the volume down” on the pain through desensitization and get you back to full, pain-free movement and activities. After our physical therapy services, we will give you the tools you need to take control of your own pain and teach you how to manage and eliminate that pain.

joint replacement rehabilitation

Joint replacement can be rough on the body. Our professionals have the techniques to ensure your rehabilitation is stress-free and that there is minimum discomfort following joint procedures. We also perform cold laser therapy to reduce swelling in the joint.

We readily engage you during your recovery and offer in-home therapy for your comfort and convenience. This approach is particularly important in the treatment of total shoulder replacements (TSA) and reverse total shoulder replacements (rTSA).

Shoulder Rehabiliation

Our practice has a strong focus on restoring functional performance following all shoulder conditions. In fact, we are one of the first north Jersey centers to provide comprehensive rehabilitation following total shoulder and reverse total shoulder replacements.

Our therapists are adept at treating shoulder issues, including both non-operative and post-operative care. In fact, our reputation is built on the individual attention we pay to you and the long-standing relationship we have with local orthopedists, including shoulder and elbow specialists at Columbia University Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery.

A majority of each session during your physical therapy services is spent on manual therapy techniques to address pain, swelling soft tissue restriction, and motion. Then, strengthening is accomplished with both manual techniques and equipment.

Pain that comes from TMD can be debilitating. This physical therapy service we help relieve your pain and stiffness with techniques ranging from proper posture to dental appliance training.

TMD is a specialty that most practices do not offer. We have a board certified TMD specialist with 40 years of treatment experience that has been instrumental in the development of physical therapy treatment for this debilitating syndrome. It is often a problem brought on and worsened by stress. As such, our treatments focus on manual techniques performed in a stress-reduced, calm environment.

spinal care

Utilizing advanced methods of treatment—including the McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®—our experts provide the highest quality of care for all aspects of your spine. This includes rehabilitation following:

-Disc herniation
-Discectomy and fusion
-Laminectomy
-Cervicogenic (neck pain) headaches

concussion

Most concussions or mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (mTBI) resolve in a day or 2. The symptoms of a concussion may include headache, confusion, lack of coordination, memory loss, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, ringing in the ears, sleepiness, and excessive fatigue. If it doesn’t resolve in a week or 2 then perhaps our physical therapy services may be the answer to help you recover faster.

Concussions can affect your balance (vestibular system), sight (ocular) and/or your muscles (musculoskeletal). A physical therapist that has been trained in how a concussion effects these systems and how to work with them can help you return to your pre-concussion lifestyle and activities.

message therapy

Massage or unconditional touch is the oldest forms of therapy. From a therapeutic perspective it works on the nervous system flooding the brain with non-nociceptic or non-threatening stimulus to bring about a feeling of calm and relaxation. This has an effect on the entire person and all systems of the body and can reduce pain and allow you to move more freely. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, massage therapy can be a great adjunct to your physical therapy program working towards a more pain free lifestyle.

services-sports-injury-rehab

Fully healing and even performing better after a sports injury involves a carefully designed Personalized Sports Injury Therapy Plan, hard work, rest, and time.

Your highly-trained therapist will utilize the latest evidence-based approaches to help you heal from your sports injury. Your Personalized Sports Injury Therapy Plan will include manual therapy techniques and strengthening therapy, all carefully monitored for important improvement milestones. Before you return to your sport, we will work with you at our facility to practice the skills needed to officially return to play. The whole time you work with us, we maintain contact and update your referring physician so we can optimize the coordination of your care.

With proper guidance from your therapist, your sports injury does not need to limit you, instead, it can be a turning point for learning how to perform better in the future while preventing re-injury.

Our clinicians offer over 100 years of combined experience among our clinicians and specialize in a manual therapy approach using McKenzie, Maitland and Maitland-Australian techniques to help you accomplish your desired goals. We combine these with a significant emphasis on education and lifestyle modification, which is necessary to control spine conditions long-term.

Additionally, in the case of cervicogenic headaches, once other sources have been ruled out, and a clear source in the cervical spine has been identified by exam and radiology, we proceed with treatment that is 75 percent manual therapy and 25 percent exercise. Modalities such as cold laser are utilized when appropriate.
